Australian and New Zealand whales

Track the Australian and New Zealand whales

For the first time, researchers from across Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia satellite tagged southern right whales in both countries this austral winter. Below you can see tracks from these whales, and see the similarities and differences in their voyages from their sheltered wintering grounds out into the Southern Ocean. As you can already see, some of the Australian whales are heading further west than the Aotearoa New Zealand whales.
